Dominique’s Smile

An African Child with a Smile

Well, I believe I have finally found it! Dominique does have a smile. Unfortunately I snapped the picture right before it turned into a full fledged grin.  It has been nearly a month since we rescued him. I talked to his mother about it and she told me “he was just too embarrassed about his missing teeth.” Supposedly, some Kenyan children are humiliated when they start loosing their teeth and don’t want people to see all the gaps. Dominique, as you can see, has himself a big old void of darkness where his new front teeth will be.

Smiles make others feel better teeth or not. My Gramdma God rest her soul used false teeth only when she ate. Yet her toothless smile would light up a room 🙂

🙂 :), seeing any of those kids smile gives me a great day. I have to watch their old friends doing drugs and digging through garbage every time I go to the grocery store. It makes me sick. We tried to feed some of them today, but we couldn’t because we thought it might start a riot. So, seeing them smile, seeing them off drugs, and seeing them withe a full belly really lights up my day.
