Doctors on Strike

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. I am doing much better. It took me a few weeks to recover because the medications I was on were causing some side effects and secondary infections.

So, what has been happening in Kitale over the last few weeks?

As of last week, the doctors are all on strike. I just passed a large group of them at the last intersection, but didn’t have my camera. They have been carrying signs around that state “The donkeys are tired.” They say they have not received their pay checks. So as people are dying in long lines, only two doctors are on duty in the whole entire town, and I have been waiting all day with the kids.

House four will be opening within the next few weeks! I am very excited about this. They have been delaying because I have been sick and we have company from the states that wanted to be here for the event.

What a wonderful relief to see your blog today! I have agonized over your illness. This had been going on too long and I will keep praying for you and celebrating at the same time. You are needed and the Lord heals. Love Lilly

I was so pleased to see your entry for yesterday and I pray you can continue to get enough rest in order to avoid a relapse. You will have to force yourself to get rest because you are so busy.

I bet your folks are very relieved, too!

I know what you mean. I need to start setting time aside for adequate rest so this doesn’t happen again. Working is so much fun out here it is hard for me to stop!

work is so much fun? or there’s such a need for your services? I imagine there’ll be a greater need with the doctor’s all fired. You MUST schedule regular “rests” for you. Otherwise, you may as well just come on home. Take care.

Praise the Lord, the doctors were not on strike when you first got sick. Praise His name, you are on the mend.

I never really thought about that, but can you imagine! I thought it was just the doctors in town that were on strike, but it turns out it was the whole country.
