Do You Use Your Mirror?

Pictured below is the lovely Miss Doreen. This Sunday, I had her stand up in front of the church full of ladies and explained she would be getting married soon (which is true). “I asked them what must we do to make her pretty?” They had many ideas. So I told them, “lets pretend that she is preparing for her wedding, but then she stops looking at the mirror.” “What would happen?” I started dressing her up backwards and putting a pair of glasses on her hair instead of her face...all of them laughed. We then had them read James 1:23-24 “For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.” We then explained to them that the Bible is our mirror. We can take what it has to say about us seriously and prepare ourselves for when Jesus returns or we can walk away from the Bible and forget what we are (much like Doreen trying to prepare for her wedding without a mirror). We asked them “how many of you have read the whole Bible?” Only the pastor (who is a BTCP graduate) could raise his hand. 22 of them committed to studying the word together and I challenged them to read 5 chapters a day. They are excited. Some hope to join BTCP eventually.
