Baseball Comes to Mattaw

Orphan Baseball

Georgie Boy takes up Baseball

Our little soccer stars are trying a new sport for the first time this week–baseball. We have a new family from the states, TJ and Lindsey, coming to join our staff and they brought a village worth of new baseballs, gloves, and helmets. It was hilarious to watch. All I can say is there were many strikes, but everyone had fun.

I love looking out on all the happy faces, and know many of these children were digging through garbage to survive not that long ago. Now they are all smiles, full bellies, clean shirts and a real chance at life here at Mattaw. It is wonderful to see the dream of Mattaw being realized. I am blessed to be able to be a part of it.

Yes, they will. I have a feeling they will all be experts by this time next year. You should see them play soccer! We have some pretty athletic kids.

The baseball pictures are great, what a treat to see your blog every morning, but I keep going back to Little Georgie singing his heart out. It is priceless! Jesus loves him, this I know!

There is just something joyful when you make a child smile. Knowing that not that long ago these children were struggling to survive and now are able to be children shows the vastness of gods love and how he uses us to be his hands on this earth. It must be a wonderful feeling to be an instrument of god. Bless you all and may your venture there continue to be fruitful.

Thank you Donna. I have been here two months and I must say I am finally becoming acculturated and really recognizing how overwhelming everything is that happens here. God is at work, that is for sure.

You are certainly being blessed, and so also are those children being blessed by your love and compassion. It’s what we want as born again Christians – to be a blessing to others and to be blessed as well.

Oh Yes, we’ll be in the major leagues! We just have to improve some–five strikes for every hit. lol. Luckily we have some great soccer players, so you never know. I hear Turkana kids are built for running too.
